For Autism Awareness Month, Iowa State Treasurer Promotes IAble Program

As part of April’s Autism Awareness Month, Iowa State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald has highlighted a new state initiative designed to help individuals with autism and other conditions financially. According to a report this month by KCIIRadio.com, the Iowa Achieving a Better Life Experience program (IAble) is a tax-advantaged savings plan for people with disabilities. Fitzgerald says the money saved can go towards disability-related expenses, such as housing, assistive technology, legal fees, transportation, and other necessities. Iowans without disabilities will still be able to contribute to the program. As noted by KCIIRadio.com, Iowa taxpayers who contribute to an IAble account will be able deduct up to $3,439 dollars from their 2020 state taxes, including the account owner. IAble currently has $4.4 million in assets total, and more than 700 accounts. Individuals and families interested in opening an IAble account can visit www.iable.gov for more info on registration.
