Advocates for People With Autism Urge Pennsylvania Governor To Provide More Funding

The Pennsylvania Advocacy and Resources for Autism and Intellectual Disability (PAR) is urging Governor Tom Wolf and other legislators to protect Pennsylvanians with autism and other conditions, according to a report this month by WJAC “We're very concerned the community system will be decimated, and then the cost of this thing will actually rise and more importantly the cost to individuals with IDA and family members will rise," Mark Davis, PAR’s president and CEO, was quoted as saying. While 55,000 direct support professionals are currently providing services to those with autism and other special needs, PAR says many may be forced to shut down soon due to financial problems. On its website, PAR describes itself as “the largest and most active association of intellectual disability and autism service providers in Pennsylvania,” adding that it “proudly represents provider organizations whose mission is to serve and support Pennsylvania's children and adults with autism or intellectual disability. 2020 will mark our 50th year as the only statewide provider association in the Commonwealth with this exclusive focus.” This month, Gov. Wolf set May 8 as the target date for Pennsylvania’s gradual reopening. Source:
