Leaky gut, allergies and all that fun

December 7, 2017

Mother and Autistic Boy

The results are back. Our poor Booboo has been dealing with a lot of allergies we were not aware of.
Basically all the food that he loves has turned out to be really bad for him; and I had been adding it generously to his “healthy” smoothies practically every single day, convinced I was nourishing him with “super foods”. Who would have thought that “innocent” organic honey, bananas, raisins, eggs or yogurt could be the very source of gut inflammation, huh? That’s not all. We have discovered a lot of other issues, like higher level of lead in his blood and some serious deficiencies (vitamins B, C, glutathione, some strains of probiotics, etc). As you can imagine, I was shocked reading these results. After all, I have always made sure my boy would get all the supplements he needed [sigh]

Have you heard of Leaky Gut Syndrome? Well… it starts to make sense, in our case. How it works and what’s it all about? Quoting Dr. Joshua Axe: “Think of the lining of your digestive tract like a net with extremely small holes in it that

only allow specific substances to pass through. Your gut lining works as a barrier keeping out bigger particles that can damage your system. When someone has leaky gut (often referred to as increased intestinal permeability), the “net” in your digestive tract gets damaged, which causes even bigger holes to develop in your net, so things that normally can’t pass through, are now be able to. Some of the things that can now pass through include proteins like gluten, bad bacteria and undigested foods particles. Toxic waste can also leak from the inside of your intestinal wall into your bloodstream causing an immune reaction.”Leaky gut may lead to many serious health issues, including all kinds of allergies, food sensitivities, chronic headaches, IBS, arthritis, skin diseases, but also malabsorption of vital minerals and nutrients including iron and zinc as well as vitamin B12! Mystery solved! Even when Booboo was taking solid portions of his supplements, they were just going through his system, without a chance to be absorbed. So what do we do? Where do we start? Diet – we have to completely and strictly avoid problematic foods (mentioned earlier, plus gluten and all dairy! Limit sugar to minimum and try to eat 100% organic. Supplements – probiotics, digestive enzymes, gentle natural chelators to remove heavy metals from his bloodstream as soon as possible, vitamins and glutathione!!! Detox baths with Epsom salts or Black Brew. We are a bit overwhelmed, I must say. Everything needs to be adjusted. It’s like pressing a “reset”button. Back to square one!I’ll keep you posted on our healing process. The best is yet to come!
