Dr. Stephen Shore Speaks on the Autism Workforce

In a public Google Hangout hosted by ICare4Autism on Monday, Dr. Stephen Shore of the US Autism& Asperger Association advisory board discussed how individuals with autism can transition into higher education and the workforce.

Dr. Shore started the hangout by discussing what parents can do when their child is young. He told viewers how his parents noticed his special interests- mechanics- and they build from there.

“My advice would be to see what interests the individual,” Dr. Shore says. “How would they spend most of their time if you let do it. That leads to areas of interests and strengths.”

Shore also discusses the benefits of high school, activity-based socializing, and transitions plans for college. You can watch the highlights from the Google Hangout here or watch it in its entirety on our YouTube channel.
