KCRA – Sacramento, Highlights a Family Touched by Autism

Recently, I came across a TV segment, online, that spoke with the Conn family of Lincoln, California that has two sons with autism. On the segment, the California mother set a superb example of how a parent can set a positive outlook for children on their own diagnosis.

“Autism Correlation Cover-up?” Nearly 5,000 Cases May be Ignored

“Autism Correlation Cover-up? Vaccine claims rarely compensated by government,” during the Fox News’ Fox & Friends Saturday. The news segment begins with the story the family of Hannah Poling. Hannah is a young child who, after receiving vaccines against nine diseases in one doctor’s visit, at the age of 18 months, reportedly developed autism. The family of Hannah Poling was later awarded $1.5 million, in September 2010.

MISSING MAN with AUTISM in MAINE

In the middle of last week, a 61-year old man with autism went missing. It is reported that the man, Pete Peterson, was last seen at Dysart’s Marina in Southwest Harbor in the Maine [USA]. The police are continuing their search. We, at the International Center for Autism Research and Education (Icare4autism), ask that Maine residents in this area and surrounding areas please keep their eyes open for Pete Peterson.

Contagious Yawning Not Found in Young Children with Autism

Typically, we are susceptible to the epidemic of contagious yawning. If somebody beside you yawns, you will generally yawn moments later for no apparent reason. I know I’ve been a victim of this for years and I have actually started the chain reaction a few times as well. An intriguing new study illustrates that children with autism are less likely to contract the syndrome of contagious yawning. This study was conducted by researchers at the University of Connecticut.

Can Autism Be Accurately Diagnosed by Close to One Year of Age?

Some promising studies are very interesting. For example, we all know that hand flapping and lack of eye contact, as well as communication delay is a really strong indication for autism. However, what about some children who show a preference for geometric patterns at an early age?

How the Law Evolved to Provide Services for Children with Disabilities

ongress enacted the Education for All Handicapped Children Act (Public Law 94-142, or PL 94-14), and was signed into law on November 29, 1975 by President Gerald Ford. PL 94-14 was to support states and localities in protecting the rights of, meeting the individual needs of children with disabilities and their families. This landmark law is currently enacted as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), as amended in 1997.

In today’s technological age, we often associate healing and therapeutic powers with the latest gadgetry in surgical procedures and advances in medicine and drugs. When looking back through the ages, the focus of medicine has been strongly linked to nature. Some of our earlier hospitals were set in monasteries, and herbs and prayer were the focus of healing.

Federal Appeals Court Rejects Autism-Vaccine Link

The autism-vaccine debate has triggered a national following from a highly emotional group of people around the globe. These are parents of children diagnosed with autism. All of these parents are dead set to prove that their children’s autism was caused, triggered, or exacerbated by a combination of the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine plus other shots, usually given at around 18 months of age.

Does Specific Pattern Recognition Help Identify Autism In Toddlers?

At the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, researchers have been using methods that track eye movements in toddlers. They have noticed that certain toddlers have a predisposition for dynamic geometric patterns than they do social images. This is a behavior that is not seen in typically developing children or even developmentally delayed children. Results show that toddlers with this predisposition may be at-risk for autism.

Researchers Discover Link Between Neural Proteins and Autism

An international team of researchers have congregated at the University of California at San Diego, and have discovered that instances of misfolding and molecular anomalies within a brain protein are connected with the autism. The study was lead by Palmer Taylor, who is the associate vice-chancellor for Health Sciences at the University of California San Diego and Dean of the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
