Disabled performers pay tribute to Michael Jackson

The Autism News | English BY KEEGAN CALLIGAR | NewsDay “Smile, though your heart is aching,” Michael Jackson sang in his 1995 cover of the 1936 song “Smile.” That’s exactly what eight dancers and one singer, ranging in age from about 21 to 45, did Friday afternoon in a music room at Old Bethpage’s Family Residences and Essential Enterprises Inc. The performers, all with disabilities and part of the organization’s FREE Players program, performed a dance tribute to the late pop star’s 1983 hit “Billie Jean.” The group’s choreography was created by Dawnette Darden, a staffer, just 20 minutes before the performance.
